Director of the National Appellate Practice Group
Lawrence A. Katz serves as Senior Trial Counsel and Director of both the National Professional License Defense Practice Group and the National Appellate Practice Group at LLG National Law Firm. With more than 45 years of experience, he has built his career around protecting constitutional rights and representing individuals in complex administrative, appellate, and federal matters. Originally from the Philadelphia area, Mr. Katz and his wife raised their family there and now make their home in Cape May County, New Jersey.
Mr. Katz’s respect for the U.S. Constitution first inspired him to pursue a legal career, and that dedication continues to guide his work. Over the decades, he has represented injured workers and employees in whistleblower and anti-retaliation cases and has developed a strong national reputation for his work in Eleventh Amendment jurisprudence. His appellate background is extensive—he has argued before multiple U.S. Courts of Appeals, including the First through Seventh, Ninth, Tenth, and Eleventh Circuits—and he is among the few attorneys to have personally argued before the Supreme Court of the United States.
Mr. Katz is admitted to practice in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and numerous federal district courts, including the Eastern, Middle, and Western Districts of Pennsylvania; District of New Jersey; District of Columbia; Eastern District of Michigan; Northern and Southern Districts of Indiana; District of Maryland; and Northern District of New York. He also frequently appears before OSHA, the Federal Railroad Administration, and the Railroad Retirement Board.
At LLG National Law Firm, Mr. Katz values the variety of cases and clients he represents, as well as the legal discussions he shares with colleagues across the firm. He takes particular pride in assisting licensed professionals navigating disciplinary matters, offering thoughtful and steady guidance during what is often one of the most stressful times in their careers. Known for his exceptional research and writing skills and his objective approach to complex cases, Mr. Katz brings clarity and confidence to every matter he handles.
Mr. Katz earned his bachelor’s degree from Temple University, graduating summa cum laude and as a President’s Scholar before being inducted into Phi Beta Kappa. He went on to receive his J.D. magna cum laude from Temple University Law School, where he worked with Professor Delores K. Sloviter—later a judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit—on constitutional litigation projects.
Outside the office, Mr. Katz enjoys reading, traveling with his wife, and spending time with their children, four grandsons, and their small dog, Coco. He also remains a lifelong student of constitutional and Supreme Court history.
